Programs are divided into weekly units which include:
12 week intensive reading course designed for the student with moderate reading disability e.g. Reading Age 8.6 - 10.6 at age 12 yrs (R.A. 9.0 - 11.6 at age 13yrs and older). Students would typically be within 'normal' general ability range. Content teaches advanced phonic concepts which dominate secondary texts and teaches relevant vocabulary. Reading gains of 3 years or more are common with this program.
Suitable for Grades 7 - 11.
15 week intensive reading course designed for secondary students with severe reading problems, i.e. Reading Age below 8.6 Yrs. Students would typically be in low ability range. Units 1 - 6 teach sight vocabulary from combined subject areas, and the remaining units cover reading rules.
Suitable for Grades 7 - 10.
(1996) is a 10 week program consisting of subject-specific Units of Work, covering Geography, History, Health/P.D. and Maths. Same format as other programs except for absence of reading rules. Provides students with comprehensive subject related vocabulary allowing them to focus on topic content. Units can be treated in special reading class or within faculty area.
Suitable for Grades 7 - 8.
10 week program consisting of subject specific units of work in Science, Computers, D & T, Art and English.
Programs C and D
Same format as the other programs except for the absence of reading rules. Provides students with comprehensive subject related vocabulary, allowing them to focus on topic content. Units can be treated in special reading classes or within faculty area.
Suitable Grades 7 - 8.
Secondary Games Books
Games books contain cards for Memory Games and meanings Games which are an integral part of the Intensive Reading Programs, and an invaluable aid for learning.
The order of each games book corresponds with the order of work units in the teaching programs.
